What are our Community Days? Prism hosts a Community Day on the last Saturday of each month. Our Community Days began after the 2024 election and are a chance for us to spend time in a safe and inclusive space with other people who "get it." We have a different activity or theme for each month, from crafting to movies to educational workshops, and so much more. If you have not joined us for one of our Community Days yet, we hope you will try us out in 2026!

If you have an idea for a Community Day or a skill you would like to share with us, please reach out and let us know!

Next Community Day at Prism, February 28, 10am-noon

Snakes, lizards, bugs, and more! Interested in seeing, interacting with, and learning about a collection of fascinating creatures? Join us at our next Community Day event on February 28th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., where we will be joined by the Curious Creatures interactive program.

Who are Curious Creatures? Curious Creatures is New England's original
Interactive and Educational Live Animal Program. Curious Creatures has a staff of experienced and professional exhibitors who teach respect and appreciation for exotic and unusual animals. Their presentation is hands-on and interactive. They include interesting facts and stories about our creatures in an educational and entertaining environment.

What creatures will you meet? Curious Creatures decides on the day of the event what critters they will be bringing with them. So while we won't know for sure what small friends we will meet, below is a list of creatures you might see at February Community Day.

  • Baby Alligators

  • Lizards - bearded dragons, iguanas, skinks and geckos

  • Snakes - pythons, boas, king snakes, corn snakes and milk snakes

  • Mammals - hedgehogs, chinchillas, rabbits, ferrets and guinea pigs

  • Turtles and Tortoises - range from baby turtles to large land tortoises

Prism is excited to partner with Christa Steiner (she/her) to offer gender affirming voice lessons for singers of all identities, ages 10 and up! Oh, and did we mention she is volunteering her time for these FREE lessons?!

Christa Steiner (she/her) is a vocalist and theatre artist who holds a Bachelor of Music in Musical Theatre/Vocal Performance from Manhattan School of Music ('20). Christa recently was awarded the title of Miss Constitution State 2026, a preliminary to Miss Connecticut. As Miss Constitution State, she is excited to advocate for mental health recovery for young people with her Community Service Initiative, Out of the Dark. Christa is excited to partner with Prism as part of her CSI, and bring their work to the Miss Connecticut stage next June. (We can't wait to cheer her on!)

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Christa is looking to give back to her community. In partnership with Prism, Christa is offering gender-affirming voice lessons. She is excited to work with all queer folks to help them sing and speak in their desired register. For all students, but especially trans and non-binary individuals, Christa will take a physiology based approach, explaining how a student's vocal anatomy can support their desired sound.

These lessons are being offered for ages 10 and up, and will take place at a location in Eastern Central CT or virtually. Details will be provided upon registration.

No experience is necessary for these lessons. Whether you are a performer, an aspiring performer, or just looking to be more confident belting it out in your car, Christa will meet you where you're at and help you reach your goals. Come as you are and learn how your voice can reflect your authentic self!

Whether you are looking for long term vocal improvement, or are looking to coach material for an audition, Christa is excited to work with you!

Group Counseling for Caregivers of LGBTQ+ Kids with JJ

This group will be a supportive and educational place for parents navigating the current social struggles and pressures of raising and loving their queer kids. In a world that works daily to erase them, parents are the most vital line of defense in keeping queer youth alive and well.
In this group, we will discuss challenges, share resources, and even learn about gender! Books and educational information will be provided to help parents reflect on their own relationship with Gender and their understandings. We will also share additional support resources.
Come as you are, and grow how you will! Starting January 13th at 6:15 pm, this group will run once monthly, meeting the second Tuesdays of each month.
